Goals of the Week: End Season Special

Added: 31.05.2009 23:00

The curtain has officially closed on another exhilarating season of football in many parts of the world, and while many of the players will soon be resting up and bathing in sunlight, I will still be working to bring the brightest moments of the beautiful game right into the living room. Without further ado, let's proceed to the very special, End-of-the-Season edition of Soccerclips Goals of the Week!

10. Luiz Adriano, Shakhtar Donetsk (watch goal here)
One of the many talented Brazilian players on the Shakhtar side strikes first blood in style at the UEFA Cup final. A long pass from Razvan Rat breaks open to Luiz Adriano, who squeezes past two Werder defenders, then makes it look easy as he chips in magnificently over Wiese to put the eventual winners ahead.

9. Raúl García, Atlético Madrid (watch goal here)
The Colchoneros' quest for Champions League football next season gets a huge boost from García's stunning goal. The Spanish midfielder meets the cross from the left side, and drives a low, driven volley past the Bilbao defense and past the keeper's desperate reach to give Atletico the early initiative.

8. Sergio Agüero, Atlético Madrid (watch goal here)
Atlético's talismanic striker runs Almeria ragged on his way to ensuring an easy victory on the season's final day. With the ball at his feet on the right side of the box, Kun cuts to his left, then to his right, then to his left again, creating all the space he needs to fire in the Colchoneros' first goal of the night.

7. Nicolas Anelka, Chelsea (watch goal here)
This year's EPL scoring title belongs to the Frenchman after a wonderful solo effort at the Stadium of Light. Collecting the ball inside his own half, Anelka goes on a mazy run toward the Sunderland goal, juking past a defender before belting a laser shot into the top left corner from over 20 yards out.

6. Darron Gibson, Manchester United (watch goal here)
The Man United youngster nearly ends Hull City's stay in the Premier League in front of their own supporters. Macheda leaves the ball off to the Gibson on the left hand side, and the Irishman drills a brilliant long-range strike past the keeper's far post to put the Tigers in the relegation zone, albeit only temporarily.

5. Juanfran, Osasuna (watch goal here)
An exquisite volley from Juanfran ensures survival for Osasuna in the Primera's relegation battle. The initial free kick is headed out of the box by a Real Madrid player, but the Spanish defender responds in kind with a swerving volleyed shot that beats Casillas; the Navarre side would hold onto a narrow 2-1 victory to beat the relegation rap.

4. Frank Lampard, Chelsea (watch goal here)
Guus Hiddink will leave England a happy man after the classy midfielder wins the day with a fantastic strike in the FA Cup final. After a short run forward, Lampard puts on the breaks and leaves a defender in his dust before smashing a screaming shot toward the Everton goal; Tim Howard can only get a slight touch on the shot, as the ball flies past him.

3. Nacho Novo, Rangers (watch goal here)
The Spanish substitute paves way for an improbably double by Rangers with a sensational volley. He receives a throw-in from the left side, and unleashes a marvelous shot from 25 yards out that sails over the keeper's head and into the Falkirk net to win the Scottish Cup for the Bears.

2. Samuel Eto'o, Barcelona (watch goal here)
Barcelona fans erupt in joy as the Cameroonian hitman finishes with aplomb in the Champions League final. Iniesta lays off a perfect through pass to Eto'o, who jukes past Vidic and leaves him somewhere in dreamland before putting the exclamation point with a strong finish past van der Sar to give the Blaugrana the early lead.

1. Wade Elliott, Burnley (watch goal here)
It is only fitting that the very best goal from the last two weeks came in a match where the contestants' bodies of work over the course of the season were squarely on the balance. Sheffield United's defense manages to tap the ball out of the box, but it only goes as far as Elliott, who slings in a breathtaking strike into the net for the Championship playoff final's only goal. The 1-0 win for Burnley means that they will be heading off to the Premiership next season, where the promises of a massive pool of cash and sold out matches against some of club football's top sides await them.

Burnley FC: Flying high
