Soccerclips' Goals of the Week 13

Added: 17.11.2008 05:29

Winter is fast approaching in the Northern Hemisphere, but the fans of football need not worry about having to turn on their heaters and wear extra layers of clothing; for watching the latest, hottest goals on this column is the best way to keep yourself warm from the harsher climates ahead. So let's huddle up and have a look at this edition of Soccerclips' Goals of the Week!

10. Morgan Amalfitano, Lorient (view goal here)
The unfancied Ligue Un outfit has Amalfitano's great strike to thank for putting them on the comeback trail against Marseille. A clearance from a dangerous cross falls invitingly to the youngster, and he duly puts the ball back into the net with a well-taken volley.

9. Jose Bosingwa, Chelsea (view goal here)
The summer signing from Portugal scores a beauty out of nowhere against West Bromwich. Taking on a defender on the right, he manages to create a couple yards of space for himself and fires off a curling effort from well outside the box that tails into the goal to give the Blues an early edge.

Bosingwa: Doing the victory dance

8. Hugo Almeida, Werder Bremen (view goal here)
It is another week, another sighting of an eyepopper from a Werder Bremen player; this time, it is Hugo Almeida that finds himself in the latest edition. The defense clears the cross from the left with relative ease, only for the Portuguese striker to deliver a thunderous drive past everyone to give them a two-goal cushion.

7. Diego Castro, Sporting Gijon (view goal here)
In another case of wonderful goals leading to an unlikely upset, Gijon upset the vaunted Valencia side due in part from a terrific solo effort from Diego Castro. He catches up to a ball played up to him, takes a touch and nods the ball up, then volleys home from a tough angle with his left foot.

6. Mladen Petric, Hamburg (view goal here)
This is the first of two bicycle goals to come from Germany this week, and what an effort this is from Petric. The throw in from the right bounces all the way to the Hamburg man, who controls the ball with his chest and punts it into the Hertha goal with his left foot, almost all in the same motion.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United (view goal here)
The reigning World Player of the Year scored on two free kicks against Stoke City; the first strike was the higher draw of the two. His attempt from over 25 yards out utterly mystifies Sorensen, its mid-air movement leading the keeper to flail at the ball in vain as it flew over his head into the net. More from this match later.

Cristiano Ronaldo: More goals to his name

4. Mathieu Coutadeur, Le Mans (view goal here)
The Frenchman produces an absolute dead ball special for Le Mans, but not in the way you expect. Instead of aiming his corner kick into the six yard box and away from the keeper, he knocks it over the keeper and directly into the net itself, stunning even his teammates and fans in the process.

3. Zlatan Ibrahivomich, Inter Milan (view goal here)
Ibra makes his return to the column with a long-range strike of unquestionable quality. Standing well outside the area on the right hand side, the Inter talisman tees up a venomous shot that squeezes past the box and inches past the keepers' grasp on its way to blasting the net.

2. Branko Jelic, Energie Cottbus (view goal here)
As if one outstanding bicycle kick from Deutscheland wasn't enough, Jelic steps up with an even better one for Cottbus. After a corner kick is cleared out, the ball is played to the Serbian international; he knocks the ball straight up in the air and connects with a brilliant overhead kick which goes just over the defender's head and into the goal.

1. Danny Welbeck, Manchester United (view goal here)
It is one thing for a young player to make his Premiership debut. It is a whole nother thing for him to make such a splash in his Premiership debut that he finds himself on this column, let alone at the number one spot of this particular edition. Young Danny Welbeck's scorching shot from over 25 yards out not only leaves the keeper in his wake, but it also leaves a fantastic first impression on the Old Trafford crowd. How the 17-year-old's career progresses from here remains to be seen, but if this goal is anything to go by, then Sir Alex has got quite a hot prospect.

Welbeck: Bright future ahead
