Soccerclips' Goals of the Week 12

Added: 10.11.2008 04:56

Despite all the gloomy predictions for the global economy that the experts around the world have sounded out in the last few months, this column, written by yours truly, has seen its stock rise exponentially with each passing day. Today is no different, as you are about to find out in this edition of Soccerclips' Goals of the Week!

10. Michihiro Yasuda, Gamba Osaka (view goal here, 3:05)
The young Gamba midfielder comes out of nowhere to score a cracking goal against Adelaide United. Yasuda meets a corner kick at the top of the box and thunders home a volley past a crowded box to give the Japanese side a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the second leg of the AFC Champions League final.

9. Ronaldinho, AC Milan (view goal here)
The former FIFA World Player of the Year produces another moment of magic late on for Milan in UEFA Cup action. With the match heading for a 0-0 draw, Ronaldinho receives a ball on a tee from Gattuso, then blasts his effort into the top left corner to hand the Rossoneri a dramatic victory over Braga.

Ronaldinho: Getting the last laugh

8. Pedro Geromel, FC Köln (view goal here)
A supreme piece of technique and cheekiness leads to a fantastic finish for this Brazilian. A header off the corner kick lands at the feet of Pedro Geromel, who proceeds to perform a no-look tap with his right foot towards goal; the ball crosses the goal line only a moment before the defender clears it out.

7. Alessandro Del Piero, Juventus (view goal here)
The iconic Italian striker makes it onto the column for the second straight week with another set piece special. He aims his free kick perfectly toward the left corner, and he gives it just the right amount of pace and swerve to leave the keeper scratching at the air in vain. More from this man later.

6. Juninho, Lyon (view goal here)
The star man from Lyon scores yet again from the set piece, this time against Steaua in the Champions League. His free kick from 30 yards out slithers through the narrowest of spaces within the wall, takes one bounce, and mystifies the goalkeeper, who could only parry it into the net.

5. Giorgios Karagounis, Panathinaikos (view goal here, 1:25)
Karagounis produces a wonder goal during his side's stunning victory over Bremen on German soil. He watches as a throw-in comes from the left side, lets the ball bounce toward him as he runs toward the box, and quickly fires a half-volley past the stunned keeper and into the Werder net.

4. Scott McDonald, Celtic (view goal here)
The man who scored many a dramatic goal for the Scottish champions last season adds another one to his collection against Man United. Receiving the headed pass on the left side, McDonald plays the ball off his chest and puts up an exquisitely lob toward goal; the fans erupt in jubilation as the ball loops just over the outstretched hand of Ben Foster and into the net to give the Hoops a shock lead early.

McDonald: A stunning opener

3. Tom Huddlestone, Tottenham Hotspur (view goal here)
Spurs put four past Dinamo Zagreb on their way to routing the Croatian side in the UEFA Cup; the brilliant volley from Huddlestone was by far the pick of that bunch. A corner kick from David Bentley is lofted right to Huddlestone, who one-times a low, driving volley past the stunned Zagreb rearguard and straight into the net.

2. Anders Due, Aalborg (view goal here, 2:10)
Due shows off his sweet left foot as he hands Aalborg an equalizer against Villarreal. It is almost a carbon copy of the second free kick scored by Nakamura versus Man United two seasons ago; Due's strike from the right side is placed perfectly into the top right corner, and the keeper could do very little to stop its trajectory into the goal.

1. Alessandro Del Piero, Juventus (view goal here)
Yes, it's that man again. The player who has turned Turin inside out many a timewith an array of spectacular goals over the years does the trick once more; this one, however, comes in one of the grandest stages in all of football, the famed Bernabeu, against Real Madrid. His effort from 25 yards out twirls to the left of the wall, takes a sudden dip toward the ground, and bangs right against the net, leaving Iker Casillas flat-footed and absolutely defenseless. Juventus would eventually run out 2-0 winners in Madrid, giving themselves a huge boost to their Champions League prospects.

Del Piero: A hero once again
